The American Cowboy - Symbol of the American West
Cowboy Photography Workshop

In the movie "The Cowboys", John Wayne and a team of young cow punchers trailed a cow herd to the rail lines in "Belle Fourche, Dakota Territory". Join professional photographers Les Voorhis and Jason Hahn in modern day Belle Fourche, SD for an exciting four day weekend photographing traditional cowboys in their natural settings. You will swear you see "The Duke" bringing in the herd. Our cowboy models are the real deal. No dime store or weekend cowboys here. These guys and girls are real working cowboys and professional re-enactors, all wearing authentic 1880s style and modern working cowboy clothing. Our photography begins with a prairie ranch setting potentially photographing brandings, chuckwagon settings, campfire scenes, roundups, quick draw demonstrations, and outstanding portrait opportunities. After two days we move to a new location in the mountains and photograph horse roundups, packstrings, more roundups and so much more. You will photograph everything from intimate portraits, running horses, close ups of cowboy gear and tack, chuckwagon scenes, roundups, brandings and who knows...maybe a gun fight will break out!
Belle Fourche, SD is located at the northern edge of the beautiful Black Hills and truly is the heart of the American West. Belle (as it is affectionately known by the locals) is just a few miles from Deadwood, SD where Wild Bill Hickock fell to Jack McCall's bullet in 1876. The first marshall for the town of Deadwood is western legend Seth Bullock and Seth is also credited for beginning the town of Belle Fourche. What could be a better setting for photographing western cowboys than such a storied and iconic area. Belle Fourche is easily accessible from Rapid City Regional airport and most major carriers fly into Rapid City making it affordable to get to there.
The prices and details are still being worked out for this workshop but space is expected to fill quickly. Led by award winning professional photographers, this will be the finest opportunity to photograph authentic, working cowboys and cowgirls in real ranch settings in western South Dakota. Prices are set at $2,495 for the shoot and all lodging and meals based on double occupancy. If you prefer to provide your own lodging and evening meal then price is set at $2,195.
